Erin Owens joined the POLIS team as a work study student in fall 2025. She is currently pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Nationhood, which she plans to complete in July 2026. Erin then hopes to pursue Indigenous and/or Environmental Law.
Erin loves education and is dedicated to always being open to learning new things. Her area of interest lies at the intersection of law, governance, and policy work, specifically in implementing meaningful change to support Indigenous stewardship of the land. Additionally, she is interested in the intrinsic ecological functions of delicate or vulnerable ecosystems and how policy reform can be used to protect vulnerable communities.
Erin grew up in the small city of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. She moved to Victoria in 2020 to pursue her Bachelor of Science, majoring in Biology and minoring in Environmental Studies, as well as to run for the UVic Varsity cross country and track team. Beyond running and academic interests, she loves to play the piano, read, and go camping and hiking with friends. Erin is committed to supporting POLIS in advancing effective solutions to pressing environmental issues.
