POLIS’ Oliver M. Brandes was in B.C.’s Skeena watershed in October for meetings with local experts, funders, other B.C. water leaders, and representatives from the BC Freshwater Legacy Initiative. The group met to discuss priorities and opportunities for the Skeena in the context of freshwater sustainability, as well as the potential impacts of B.C.’s new Water Sustainability Act for freshwater protection in the region. The gathering included a field trip, which offered a deeper understanding of the ecosystem and those priority challenges being faced in the region. A first for POLIS, the tour took to the sky, with participants boarding a helicopter to get a birds-eye view to better understand the current state of the watershed and the opportunities ahead.
